01. Your Monthly STT Allowance

minutes of speech-to-text per calendar month — included with all subscriptions

Resets automatically on the 1st of each month. Unused minutes do not carry over. There is no rollover.

Every Ident-A-Narc subscription tier includes 60 minutes of speech-to-text (STT) dictation per calendar month. This is sufficient for typical clinical session note-taking. For context:

A 5-minute call-out observation with dictated notes uses approximately 3–5 minutes of STT
60 minutes supports approximately 12–20 full clinical observations per month
Usage resets to zero on the 1st of each month
Unused minutes are not carried forward to the following month

The App displays your remaining STT allowance at all times. You will receive an in-App alert when you reach 80% usage and again when your allowance is fully consumed for the month.

02. Why the Limit Exists

Straight answer: Speech-to-text is a cloud-based service we pay for by the minute. ElevenLabs Scribe API — the STT engine powering Ident-A-Narc — is billed per minute of audio processed. The 60-minute cap exists to keep your subscription affordable.

Without a fair usage cap, a small number of heavy users would generate costs that would require us to raise prices for everyone. The 60-minute allowance is sized to cover the realistic monthly usage of a clinical professional in routine practice.

This is not a technical limitation — it is a cost-containment measure that keeps the subscription at £5/month rather than multiples of that figure.

03. What Counts Against Your Allowance

Counted (deducted from your 60 minutes)

Any audio submitted to the STT dictation feature
Audio submitted but returning an empty or failed transcript (the audio was still processed)
Resubmissions of the same recording

Not counted (unlimited)

All manual text input (typing directly into the App)
Browsing the clinical framework and signs content
Viewing, editing, or deleting stored transcripts
All other App features not using the STT dictation function

04. When You Reach Your Limit

When your 60-minute allowance is consumed:

The STT dictation feature is suspended for the remainder of the calendar month
All other App features remain fully available
Manual text entry is always available as an alternative
Your STT allowance resets automatically on the 1st of the following month
There is no ability to purchase additional STT minutes in the current subscription tier

Note on additional usage: We intend to introduce optional STT top-up minutes as a separate add-on in a future release. If demand warrants it, a higher-usage subscription tier (120+ minutes/month) may also be introduced. These are future plans and are not yet available at launch. Subscribers will be informed of any new options by email.

05. Monitoring & Measurement

STT usage is measured in seconds of audio submitted and rounded to the nearest second. Measurement is performed by the ElevenLabs Scribe API at the point of processing. The App displays your real-time remaining allowance.

We do not impose a hard block without warning. The sequence is:

80% consumed (48 minutes used): in-App alert issued
100% consumed (60 minutes used): STT feature suspended, in-App notification, manual entry remains available
1st of the following month: allowance resets to 60 minutes automatically

06. Acceptable Use

The Ident-A-Narc App and its STT feature are intended for clinical professional use only — the observation, classification, and documentation of behavioural indicators in clinical and emergency settings.

The following uses are not permitted:

Submitting audio containing identifiable patient information (names, NHS numbers, dates of birth, addresses)
Attempting to circumvent the monthly usage cap through account sharing or automated submission
Using the STT feature for purposes unrelated to clinical behavioural observation
Submitting audio containing special category data as defined under UK GDPR Article 9 (health, biometric, or racial data belonging to a third party)

Breach of acceptable use terms may result in suspension of STT access. Suspected abuse will be investigated.
